A group of 16 people had an enjoyable time on a fine sunny afternoon exploring the streets and reserves
of Titirangi. We met at Crum Park in Green Bay, and after the usual in-circle intros and prayer we set
out at 2:10pm, going past sports fields to climb up to Titirangi Rd. This would be the first of several
grunts on our up-and-down route. We then went down Highland Ave and Chamari Close to come to Clarence
Reserve with its tiny playground and a sculpture looking like six green pencils. Crossing the Waikumete
Stream we came to Atkinson Rd and Kaurilands School with some fancy sculptures in its front ground. We
dropped down through bush to cross the Hibernia Stream and up to follow more streets to come to a couple
of Watercare storage reservoirs on Konini Rd. These fully enclosed reservoirs contain water collected
from the dams in the Waitakere Ranges to go on to the greater Auckland city. There was a further grunt
up through bush to come to Kohu Rd. Our final uphill was to Mt Atkinson where we enjoyed views out to
West Auckland, the Sky Tower and Laingholm and Manukau Harbour. We then carried on to Titirangi village
for a welcome icecream stop. From there we went on down Titirangi Rd to retrace our footsteps back to
Crum Park finishing at 4:50pm. Distance 7km.
