Our small but enthusiastic group of five started the Hapuakohe Walkway from Mangapiko Rd in the northeast
Waikato on a sunny Saturday morning after a 7am departure. In most parts it was a relatively gentle climb
up through mainly bush and a little farmland to the tower at 535m and then returned the same path. There
were a few falls due to the rain in the previous days leading up to the hike. Some plants eaten
by a few of the hikers were hangehange, Pikopiko (young curled shoots of fiddleheads of Mouku/Hen and
Chickens fern), young tender shoot of the Kareao/Supplejack and Hakeke;/Wood Ear or Ear Fungus.
Our devotions were from Psalm 8 with the message of closeness to nature often leads to a greater
closeness to God.
