HAMLINS HILL HURDLE
Hamlin's Hill Sun 20 Oct
|

A group of 11 people had a lovely time exploring the tracks of Hamlin's Hill Regional Park at Penrose.
After our usual in-circle intros and prayer at the entrance to the park off Great South Rd, we set out
at 2pm and first of all we went up through open pasture to the summit of Hamlin's Hill. There were extensive
views all around, Manukau Harbour to the west, the volcanoes such as One Tree Hill, Mt Eden and Mt Wellington,
and Sky Tower on the skyline, and the Coromandel Ranges on the eastern skyline. We went around in a loop
then came back to the track junction. From there we did two loop walks through the bush, enjoying the
native trees, before having our afternoon tea break.

John gave the devotions, titled A Love Letter From God. This was a selection of Bible verses about
the immense love God has for us. He knows everything about us, we were made in his image, He knew us
before conception, and put us together in the mother's womb. God is not distant or angry, He is very
loving, like a Dad who offers more than an earthly father. He meets all our needs, we are His treasured
possession, and He comforts us in our troubles. One day He will wipe away our tears and take away our
earthly pain. He loves so much He sent his son Jesus Christ to take the penalty for our sins on the cross.
Come home and He will throw the biggest party heaven has ever seen. Will you be God's child, He is waiting
for you.
We did our final loop walk through open pasture to the northwest corner of the park,
where we saw remnants of stone work from pre-European days. Our walk finished just before 4pm, having
completed 4.9km.
