This flagship event of the ABTC attracted 43 people, and again took place at the Carey Baptist College
in Penrose. Jon Collins, who founded the Club in 1979, was present with his wife Julene, they now live
in Sydney but were over in NZ for a few weeks to catch up with friends and rellies.
The usual
mix-n-mingle over drinks-n-nibbles began from 5pm, and dinner was served at 5:30pm - ham and chicken
plus vegies. David W gave a notice about a possible extended weekend in April next year, Easter and Anzac
Day just three days apart. Suggestion was Wellington with day tramps, overnight trips, and a visit to
Kapiti Island. A clipboard was circulated to gain expressions of interest. We then had our dessert of
chocolate cake and ice cream. We had our ABTC photo competition. The entries from the eight categories
were shown on the screen, after each category we filled in voting papers.
Barbara L shared a devotion
reflecting on our beautiful NZ native birds, and how they remind us of God's care, God's provision, encouragement,
protection, guidance and salvation and Spirit enabling. She showed slides of native birds such as saddleback,
kiwi, kakapo, and tui, and concluded by displaying the verse For all who are led by the Spirit of God
are sons and daughters of God (Romans 8:14).
Cathie announced the winners of the photo competition:

David W gave a speech about Jon and how the Collins Drive in the Broken
Hills of Coromandel Range was supposedly named after him. Jon said that he had done some research, and
found it was named after Bert Collins who owned two stores selling mining equipment. This drive was
used to transport his goods.
The new exec came to the front to be prayed for by Leila. The meeting
finished at 9:05pm.
