Ten people took advantage of a calm winter night to do a walk around the Viaduct Harbour and Wynyard
Quarter, taking a good look at the lights.
About half the group drove to Mt Eden to bus the short
distance to Britomart, saving costly parking fees; the others came in directly by bus or train. We set
out from outside Britomart station at 6:30pm, and first of all had a look at the Cloud on Queens Wharf.
This had been built for the Rugby World Cup last year, and although it was closed and empty, it was bathed
in floodlights constantly changing colour.

We carried on past the ferry terminal and Princes Wharf to the Viaduct, going through the old drawbridge
on to Te Wero Island.

After going across the new footbridge to Wynyard Quarter, we went up the balcony of the Viaduct Events
Centre to get a great view of the Viaduct Harbour and the lights of Auckland CBD National Park.

We continued on to Silo Park, and after having a look at the super yachts tied up at the end, we
lifted up to the top level of a long viewing gantry to get a bird’s eye view.

From there we returned to Viaduct Harbour past the fish market, and walked around the harbour and
past the newly-reopened Tepid Baths to Albert St. We finished at 7:45pm, and enjoyed dinner at Food Alley,
a food court providing a wide selection of Asian dishes.

We were back at Britomart about 8:30pm ready to bus or train home, having had a lovely night out
with a difference.
