The weather was perfect for this walk which was a 15.5km starting at the carpark meeting at around 9.15am.
We had the rounds of introduction.
A total of 11 completed the walk which was completed in an
anti-clockwise direction stopping at the viewpoints along Gibbons track. It takes around 1½ hours to
reach Pararaha Stream where lunch was consumed. Gibbons and Muir tracks have had a make over meaning
the walk is easy. After lunch it was the first time to cross the stream without getting our boots wet
via an impressive new timber piled bridge. Auckland Council parks department needs to be congratulated
on the track improvements for the general public use.
From the end of the board walks we travelled
on a well-formed vehicle track for about 1 hour heading towards Karekare to find the left turn onto the
beach where we could turn south back towards Whatipu and our vehicles. We all enjoyed the variety of
the terrain and said goodbye till next tramp.
