Fourteen people, one dog and one pushbike took advantage of a glorious late-summer afternoon to walk
the Meola Reserve and Western Springs Lake, the highlight being a picnic afternoon tea with devotions
at a shady spot near the lake.
We all met at the Seddon Fields carpark on Motions Rd behind the
zoo at 2pm, then set out along the track beside the soccer fields to Meola Rd. Some of the soccer players
were in the spirit of the season, wearing green on the eve of St Patrick’s Day - or maybe Christmas with
red hats to go with the green?

We carried on into Meola Reserve to enjoy the coastal scenery. As the tide was high we did not go
out on to Meola Reef, but had a rest stop at a picnic table overlooking the reef. One of the group was
into the spirit of St Paddy with his green hairdo.

On the way back to Meola Rd on the loop track we passed through a dog exercise area. Megga made
it obvious that the human species is not the only one with a craving for socialising within the species.

From Meola Rd we went through Jaggers Bush to Motions Rd.

We continued along Motions Rd to enter the Western Springs Lake reserve near the entrance to the
zoo. It was a lovely walk beside the lake with its myriads of ducks, swans, seagulls and sparrows, no
doubt grateful for all the people who come every day with their unwanted bread and other tit-bits for
them.

Geoff was waiting for us halfway around the lake, all set up for a picnic afternoon tea of tea, coffee,
cold drinks and biscuits.

Rosemary shared from The Word For Today (6 Mar 08) and Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life about
how God tested the character of Joseph. Rick Warren’s book describes life as a test, a trust and a temporary
assignment. In all of life’s events we are continually being tested. Such things as unanswered prayer,
delays, changes and tragedies are given to test us. Sometimes God intentionally draws back as He did
with Hezekiah to test his characteristics. Even the smallest incident is significant. Troubles lead to
patience, and patience leads to character. Joseph was able to look back on his life and realise that
God meant everything for his good. We must reflect the life and love of Christ.
We carried on
around the lake, then back to Seddon Fields to finish a lovely afternoon walk.
