Sixteen trampers started from the Opanuku carpark/Mountain Rd at the head of Henderson Valley. Leaders Mark Gibson and Colin O'Gorman led the party along the Opunuku Pipeline Track and through a waterpipe tunnel. Mark and Colin shared some  tips for hiking in the bush as this was new experience for some of the walkers.

The group continued through dense bush with some steep, muddy sections along the Peripatus track and at the top folk had a well earned lunch stop and rest. After crossing Scenic Drive we arrived at the Waitakere Tramline Track which is part the Rain Forest  train route. The railway line crossed a new bridge which had been constructed after a major  land slip and we were able to get some great views of the water spilling from the Waitakere Dam.

On reaching the dam access road, folk enjoyed a rest at the lookout point with beautiful views across the water and forest.  We walked a short section of Scenic Drive and then along the Filter Track and down to the Filter Station.  At this point we returned along the Opunuku Track via the tunnel, completing the circuit. Great springtime weather and good company made this an excellent day's tramp.
