Alisdair shared a devotional thought titled the Bridge and is quoted: “The Bridge’ There are times
in life when we are called to be bridges, not a great monument spanning a distance and carrying loads
of heavy traffic, but a simple bridge to help one person from here to there over some difficulty such
as pain, grief, fear, loneliness a bridge which opens the way for ongoing journey. When I become a bridge
for another, I bring upon myself a blessing, for I escape from the small prison of self an and exist
for a wider world, breaking out to be a larger being who enter another’s pain and rejoice in another’s
triumph. I know of only one greater blessing in this life, and that is allow someone else to be a bridge
for me - Joy Cowley
In the afternoon we did a tracking exercise, navigational and using a rubber
fire starter a tool for the survival kit. At night we considered our menus, how to plan a trip, weather
and contingency plans. A great trip requires good planning. We had a great tea as the trainees used the
cookers. We each contributed to the menu.
The weather was kind and after our evening discussions
we bunked down to consider a new day. On the Sunday we cleaned up and got on the way. While walking we
did radio work and a First Aid Scenario organised by Gary and Alisdair where a patient needed to be assessed
and taken across a stream. This was a good exercise teaching us to be at a state of readiness when walking
and having contingency plans. Peter shared devotions on the Compass and navigation equating this to God
being our guide and navigator.
We got back to our vehicles about 2pm went to Paeroa for a debrief
then headed back to Auckland. The Cost for the weekend was approximately $50 and travel distance from
Auckland approximately 128km.
This was a great learning weekend and all participating contributed
richly.
COST: $50 incl. travel (128km) food and accommodation.
