Eight people met at The Bracken at 8am, and we travelled in two cars to the carpark at the end of Goodwin
Rd at the foot of the Kaimai Range. We arrived there at 10:15am to find that the carpark was taken up
by tents and stalls for the Goat Goes Bush Kaimai Adventure Run. This was a running event where competitors
would run or walk over the Kaimai Range to Aongatete Lodge on the east side, a total of 17km. We had
to park the cars in a nearby paddock.

We set out on the Wairere Falls track, and as we climbed steadily through native bush we had to give
way to the runners. We were cheering on the runners calling them by name when we could see their nametags.
Further on there was a large staircase to climb, and we came to a lookout where we could view the Wairere
Falls at 11:30am.

45 minutes later we came to the top of the Wairere Falls, and we had lunch sitting on various parts
of the stream bed, Jill and Noreen enjoying a possy almost right on the lip of the waterfall. We could
look out to the rolling Waikato farmland below.

Because the terrain would not allow us to sit together for lunch, we gathered together on our feet
to listen to Jo read the day’s devotions from The Word For Today. Life is full of bumps, and these
bumps are God testing us to refine our faith in Him. When faith remains strong it will bring glory, praise
and honour on the day Jesus Christ returns. We left at 1pm for the return walk the same way back
to the carpark, arriving at 2:20pm. By now all the tents had gone and there were few cars left. On our
way home we stopped at a café near the SH2/SH27 turnoff to cap off a lovely day.
