A beautiful day to complete the walk which started at Matiatia Bay Waiheke wharf. The ferry trip was
very pleasant and both ways very punctual.
Starting at the beach the track climbs to a headland
Te Whetumatarau point which has views north to the other islands of the gulf. This was the morning refreshment
stop before continuing through to Church Bay, Cable Bay and around Park Point to have lunch at Matarahui
Bay. This was very sheltered and gave views back toward Kennedy point and the southern end of Waiheke.
The walk has great coastal views with a well maintained surface and more than a few steps to manage.
After lunch the group split as member of the group was struggling with their balance. As the
leader Mark made the decision to get transport back to the ferry due to safety concerns. Four of the
group made it to the road via another track and taxied to the ferry. It pays to have an alternative in
place in case of such an event. The other members of the group under David Walker’s guidance completed
the route.
COST: ferry return $49.50, free for SuperGold card holders.
