A group of 21 took advantage of a lovely warm spring afternoon to do a walk from Glamorgan school
through to the foreshore of Long Bay. After positioning cars at the other end, we had our karakia and
intros before setting out at 2:15pm, going through the school grounds to Carnmore Place and Kate Sheppard
Ave. We entered a bush reserve, going along a stepped track going up and down, and came out on to Fitzwilliam
Drive and Glenvar Rd with a view down to the coast.

From there we went down Glenvar Rd to the Long Bay Baptist Church where our leaders Ian and Wilma
told us about the Bays Community Housing Trust that was created by members of that church 15 years ago.
The trust owns 21 houses, leases 14 more, and has 57 tenants, may of whom have mental health issues,
and who have the help of community support workers. Five new homes beside the church are in the process
of being built and expect to be finished later next year.

We carried on down Glenvar Ridge Rd to Long Bay and did a walk around a large stormwater pond. It
was 3:20pm when we got to the Long Bay Regional Park and had our afternoon tea break. Afterwards we went
down to the foreshore to walk along the beach to the carpark, finishing about 4:20pm. Most of us took
up Ian and Wilma’s invitation to go back to their home for coffee afterwards.
