A total of 33 people attended the Sumer Tramps Reunion which this year was held at Eden Community Church
in Mt Eden. People began arriving from 5pm, and a yummy pot-luck BBQ dinner was served up about 6pm.
During this time we were invited to write on a card for the 60th birthday of past-president Peter York
who is now living in Australia.

At 7:20pm we gathered in the lounge area to begin our formal programme. David T began with devotions
based on Richard Foster’s The Celebration of Discipline and Dallas Willard’s The Spirit of the Disciplines.
He related the spiritual disciplines of simplicity, silence, solitude, prayer, meditation, fellowship,
submission, service, worship and celebration when applied to going on tramping trips.
This was
followed by four presentations about the Summer Tramps. This year the tramps consisted of four extended
pack-carrying expeditions only. Penny gave the first one on the Lake Angelus tramp which was done from
5 to 8 January, setting out along the Mt Robert Ridge to Angleus Hut and returning via Cascade Track
and Lake Rotoiti. David T took us over the Red Hills following possibly the most challenging part of
the Te Araroa Trail, this group doing the tramp at the same time as the Lake Angelus group. Phillip N
presented his trip to the Sabine Valley and Blue Lake which was done from 9 to 11 January, and Roger
took us over the Mole Tops giving a presentation dotted with jokes and ditties about moles.
Thank
you cards were presented to those who had organised and led the trips. We then had a presentation and
discussion about proposed Sumer Tramps for next year to Fiordland, followed by presentations about proposed
tramps to New South Wales and Israel. David K closed the meeting with a karakia about 9:15pm.
