About 40 people showed up at the Remuera Baptist Church at 5pm for a yummy pot-luck BBQ dinner. This
had been set down for Eden Community Church, but was changed at a few days’ notice after the organisers
realised there would be hardly any car parking with a World Cup cricket game at Eden Park.
We
went into the main church auditorium for our formal time beginning at 7:30pm. Paul opened with devotions
on the Beatitudes (Matthew 5) where Jesus tells about life, God being interested in us, and the qualities
of God. Our first presentation was from Phillip who took us through the Kaweka Ranges with the pack-carrying
group, then we went to the South Island to follow Ruth along the Mavora Lakes track. Ian and Paul showed
slides of the Hollyford Track, before Nelson and Alex came to the front to sing a tramping song to the
tune of Wandering the King’s Highway with Alex on guitar. We then tramped the Milford Track with Brett,
and again with Hunter before Ian took us along the Hump Ridge Track. On our way back we went to Hawkes
Bay to visit Cape Kidnappers, Lake Tutira, Te Mata Peak, Waimarama Beach, the art deco of Napier, and
Little Bush, and climb Kaweka J with the day-tramps group. Paul called for suggestions for our next Summer
Tramps, before presenting thank you cards to the leaders involved with these tramps.
