The first of the two popular big events of the Club year, the Summer Tramps Reunion, drew a crowd of
46 people to the Eden Community Church.
The evening began with a pot-luck BBQ dinner at 5pm, and
at 6:30pm we gathered in the church lounge. Phillip D began the formal time with devotions about ‘special
parts of the Bible especially written for trampers and walkers”, the fifteen Songs of Ascent being Psalms
120-134. Psalm 121 begins with I will look to the mountains, where will my help come from? My help will
come from the Lord who made heaven and earth. The theme was always to look up to our God who will help
us in our times of need. We rose to sing the hymn O God our help in ages past a cappella.

Helena and Phillip gave an overview of our Christmas holiday tramps to Lewis Pass, and Barbara did
an overview of the tramps to Wellington and Wairarapa. We then set out on a tour of these following the
footsteps of those who did these tramps. Some of the places we visited included Lake Sumner, Orongorongo
Track, Putangirua Pinnacles, Castlepoint, Waiau Valley, Lake Guyon, Inland Pack Track, Big River Track.
We had a break for dessert at 8:50pm before going on to Hurinui High Country Track, Reefton, Waikuku
Lodge and the Tora Walk. The evening concluded with the presentation of thank you gifts to the committees
involved with these tramps, a proposal for the next summer tramps to be in Central Otago, and notices
on forthcoming events.
