Saturday 10 July was sunny. A group of 21 people took the ferry from Auckland to Rangitoto Island at
9.15am. We climbed the Summit Track and many of as took a side trip to the Lava Caves. The adventurous
members squeezed through them. We all met at the top for lunch at the platform lookout, where everyone
gathered for a photo and enjoyed the amazing views.
In a sunny spot further along the crater
rim, Barbara Steel led us in a discussion about mountain experiences from the Bible. We thought about
why we like to climb mountains. And finished with a passage from Isaiah 40, about how God created everything;
and he never tires. He is always available for us. If we put our trust in Him, we will run and not grow
weary.
We returned to the wharf - some via Wilsons Park track, and others back down the same
way. Several people stayed to walk round the road towards McKenzie Bay while others returned on the 2.30pm
ferry.
The cost for the return trip was $43; or to buy online only $39. As it happened, the trains
were not running that weekend so people car-pooled or found their way by bus.
