12 people attended the trip to Puketi Forest Hut led by Justin Coleman and Sophie Ye over the long weekend
and we enjoyed a combination of forest and river walks in Kerikeri and Waitangi.
It was an easy
drive to the spacious well appointed hut and power and gas cooking no doubt made things easier for first
time overnighters Tony and Shirley Lin.
Saturday's highlights were a 40 minute afternoon scenic
loop walk through the kauri studded bush in the rain and a yummy evening dinner at Greens Thai restaurant
in Kerikeri.
Our Sunday activities included a river walk through bush and mangrove Forest from
Waitangi to Haruru Falls and back. On the way to Haruru we stopped to watch a colony of nesting shags
above in the pohutukawa trees and when we enjoyed lunch in the picnic grounds at Haruru falls. After
catching up for coffee at Waitangi with Gary and Margaret, our group enjoyed sightseeing in sunny Paihia
and then a home cooked dinner at the camp with devotions by Tina.
On Monday morning we enjoyed
the Rainbow Falls walk alongside the Kerikeri River followed by a visit to the historic Stone Store and
Cafe stop off before our return to Auckland.
