On a very wet Saturday morning with forecast for some heavy showers passing through the Waikato during
the day, there was a discussion on whether we should do an alternative hike. We decided to go ahead and
despite the heavy rain driving there, our prayers were answered as we started in very light drizzle
and then fine weather. Tirohanga Track: The track started from Corcoran Road, climbed to Ruapane then
traversed an undulating ridge on uneven ground before passing Tirohanga Bluff, a pinnacle of hard lava
signifying its volcanic origins. The track then descended and climbed before reaching the Pirongia summit.
The devotions was taken from "Word for Today" which was a part of a series of how to win life's
battles and started off: thank God in advance. Imagine standing on a mountaintop looking across a valley
towards a mountain on the other side. And so was a suitable devotion while sitting at the top of Mt Pirongia.
THE GROUP: Paul Campbell (leader), Des Leighton, Mark Gibson, Paul Ungemuth, Ruth Ungemuth, Warren
Bird, David Walker, Barry Morgan, Dale Meason, Lauren Burrnet, Sheryl Duffy-York
