“That was the toughest track I’ve done in a few years!”……Jeff's description of the Moss Creek Track which
four intrepid trampers from ABTC tackled recently.
At 10.30am on Saturday morning, we said
goodbye to other ABTC trampers who were heading for the Pinnacles Hut, and headed up the Moss Creek Track.
It was to be a challenging day ascending a steep and poorly maintained track. However, the bush was
beautiful and alive with bird song and there were occasional views of the Pinnacles along the way.
We stopped for an early lunch, then on, up to the Moss Creek campsite (719m) - 4 hours in all.
After
a cup of tea, we pitched our tents, then some chatted while one member of the party chose to walk on,
to Mt Rowe (794m) – one hour further on. This was a very poorly maintained track, but our keen tramper
was rewarded with good views (Table Mountain) at the top.
After a delicious meal, Nelson led us
in our devotions and talked about hills – an appropriate topic after the day’s climb! Hills have always
defended and sheltered us and are mentioned in the Bible many times.
As darkness fell we headed
for bed and next day we retraced our steps down the track, now slippery from the early morning rain.
Back at the road end, we rejoined the Pinnacles trampers to share our experiences and head home.
COST: $41-50 {petrol $19, tent site $7.50, food, Club levy etc $15)
