On a sunny Sunday afternoon in May at 1.10 pm 15 enthusiastic walkers set off to summit Mt William.
We left our cars at the southern end of the Mt William Walkway (off SH2). The track took us through
a paddock to Mt William Scenic Reserve – a very restful bush area with many different species of fern
and trees. The well-formed track was a little slippery in places (especially coming down). We emerged
from the bush to walk up through farmland, the last small section being quite steep.
A snack,
a reflective poem on appreciating God’s handiwork in creation written by our own Phillip Donnell and
a magnificent 360 degree view made us want to linger at the trig.
The plan was to return by the
western track that goes through the kauri grove but it proved to be too overgrown. A most enjoyable walk.
Time taken 3 – 3 ½ hours.
