The predicted weather, the time of year, only 3 years since the last tramp and the distance from the
city probably contributed to the low numbers. We enjoyed the smaller size as everyone had a chance to
get to know the others well. It also made supervision easy! The start of the walk was super muddy but
once off farm land it was fine under foot. The walk offers less mud, better views and more scenery in
summer but we saw 4 wood pigeons, 2 tui and 2 fantails. The trees are just as pretty in winter as summer.
We stuck to the well-marked track as the side tracks to the kauri seem to be discouraged.
We
walked to the summit where we had lunch, devotions and some general information about the area. Christine
shared on When life doesn’t make sense. At times life is like a jigsaw, we can understand parts of it
but other parts are confusing. It is particularly confusing if there is a missing part. Christ can be
that missing part.
We then continued till we got to the end of the reserve and the farm started.
We then retraced our steps back to the trig and then back to the car park. The weather was dry but windy
out of the trees. Inside the reserve it was a mild winters day.
