We met at the Somerville car park and set off at 9:30 am. Michelle led us the downhill path to the main
track. Turning left we followed the estuary down to Shelly Beach on a very well-formed gravel path,
with plenty of steps. Our first views of the estuary were at mid tide with sunshine and blue sky. Near
to Shelly Beach we walked on the sandy Shoreline, but it became very muddy and soft!
We stopped
for morning tea at Shelly Beach and sunshine with a view of moored boats and glistening sea! Barbara
shared a devotion on Thankfulness, describing worldwide data showing we are among the most blessed in
the world with health and resources. This resonated with our sentiments of thankfulness to have such
a sunny day after a showery week!
It is a very popular path and we met many people going both
ways. We returned to the same track as far as a junction, then took the grassy uphill track leading up
the hill to Archie's Lookout. This hilly reserve had formerly been a farm area managed by Archie Somerville
and his family. By now the view revealed the incoming tide and the estuary full of water. We returned
to the car park completing our first loop. We then descended to the main track, continued up the valley
on a more level path. Large flaxes and native trees lined the route.
Table and seats provided
a lunch spot, before we progressed all the way up to Hayley Lane with a steep climb to Point View Drive.
Grass verges provided a comfortable road walk back to the car park completing our second loop by 1:30
pm.
