A record number of 61 people turned up at Waiake Beach for this walk through to Long Bay, and the leaders
decided to split up into two groups for easier management. We set out at 2:15pm, the group led by Wilma
walking over to Long Bay via a cemetery reserve and Watea Road. We then went along a new boardwalk alongside
a newly created stormwater pond as part of a housing development taking place.

The other group with Ted in charge went along Beach Road all the way, and both groups met up for
the walk along the Long Bay beach. The tide was out, and there were many people on the beach including
many walking their dogs.

Further up the beach we turned inland for a quick comfort stop before going up the first part of
the cliff top walkway. We could see the historic Vaughan Homestead before climbing up the hill.

It was planned to have our afternoon tea break with devotions up on the hilltops, but a band of rain
suddenly came on. Instead out came the raincoats and brollies as we walked the farm tracks back to the
Long Bay carpark, keeping our spirits up with general social chatting.

We continued on without stopping, even though the rain eased off. All of us returned to Waiake Beach
along Beach Road and we were back at the cars by 4:45pm.
