Heavy pelting rain during morning church services almost made the leaders cancel the trip, but when the
sun came out afterwards it was a clear direction the trip was to go ahead for the seven people planning
to come. One car load of five left The Bracken at 1:30pm to meet up with the others at Lone Kauri Rd.
Two hens were waiting to see us off on our tramp.

We climbed up to the Zion Ridge/Buck Taylor track junction, and waited for Lynley who was running
late to join up with us.

From there we carried on down Buck Taylor Track through native rainforest to the music of Tim whistling
as he was leading the way. We had a quick break at the junction with Zion Hill Track.

We had occasional glimpses out to the Tasman Sea coast as we gradually climbed up to join up with
the Zion Ridge Track. From there it was easy and mostly level going before we left the track to go through
the bush to come out at David’s holiday home on Lone Kauri Rd. David then drove the drivers back to
the start point to pick up their cars, and we enjoyed a late afternoon tea as the sun set before going
back to Auckland city. And not a single drop of rain fell after the morning’s deluge.
