It was great to be back in the Waitakeres for a tramp. 22 of us met at the Karamatura Carpark and Geoff
Tremain explained the track had been upgraded while it was closed (due to kauri dieback), and is now
a well gravelled track with lots of steps and boardwalks.
After a brief introduction to the walk
we set out alongside the Karamatura stream to the waterfall. After a short stop there, we proceeded to
climb the 1100 steps through the bush, noticing blue and red mushrooms along the way.
We reached
Mt Donald McLean around lunchtime, to find Peter and Val Osborne waiting for us. What a lovely surprise!
We enjoyed the views, endured the strong wind over lunch and Rose Tremain brought a short devotions on
looking to God for endurance and encouragement. "..For everything that was written in the past was written
to teach us, so that through endurance and encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope." Romans
15:4
We returned to the carpark by the same track, although 6 of the group did an extra look-out
loop on the return walk. Most of us then made our way to the Huia Dairy/Café where we enjoyed icecreams
and coffee.
