e of the forecast for rain, 7 hardy walkers set off on the Huia Dam Road. There were signs of damage
along the route. Trees down, slips - water pipes held up because of them. However the Upper Dam was impressive
with water cascading down the concrete structure. We were given dry periods to have a sit-down lunch
at the Upper Huia Dam. The rainy days have filled the dams. At the upper dam the overflow of water form
a curtain of waterfall. The stairs that waterwise staff use to walk down to work now become a terraced
waterfall.
Barbara gave the devotions on not being distracted from doing the things that need
to be done. Which is fitting for the circumstance on the walk because we could have cancelled the walk
due to the weather forecast on our phones. We listened to those keen walkers and our knowing of the track
being smooth and wide with no climbing now muddy places to negotiate if it poured on us, thus safe to
go and go ahead with faith.
We headed back to Lower Huia Dam in relatively sunny conditions seeing
our own shadows on the path as we walk with the sun on our back. At the lower dam, the spillway is also
phenomenal. It was different with a funnel for the overflow. Only when some of us walked back to our
cars after lingering long at the lower dam, we were rained on. A most enjoyable trip!
