15 people set out on a cold windy afternoon to walk from Belfast St to Cape Horn Rd through a succession of reserves and walkways fronting the northern coast of Manukau Harbour. Six of us left The Bracken at 1:30pm to join up with the others at Belfast St near the Hillsborough Primary School.  We then set out through the Belfast Reserve following a track down the gully.

This came out to the foreshore of Hillsborough Bay, and we could look out across the harbour to Mangere Mountain.

The track then climbed up to Hoskins Rd which we roadbashed a short way before entering the Hillsborough Cemetery. David broke off a number of sticks from dead flax branches and handed them out to those who did not already have walking poles.

We dropped down to Aldersgate Rd for another short roadbash, then took a track following the coast to come out at Wesley Bay.

At the other end of the beach a track took us up to the playground at Waikowhai Park, and another track brought us to the end of Cape Horn Rd via a large flight of steps.

We came out about 4pm; a short walk brought us to Marian and David’s home for a welcome cuppa and bickies to finish off an enjoyable afternoon.
