A group of four had a lovely day visiting the Hamilton Gardens followed by a walk past a couple of lakes
and the Waikato riverbanks. We arrived at the gardens by the opening time of 10am, and after buying our
entry tickets ($20, $18 seniors for non-Hamilton residents) we had a good look at 18 interesting enclosed
gardens, each with a theme such as Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Italian, Tudor, Maori, Kitchen and Ancient
Egyptian, climaxing with the Surrealist Garden. It took us over a couple of hours with a walking distance
of 3km.
We had our lunch at a picnic table outside the entrance, and John read out A Love Letter
From God. This contains over 50 Bible verses about how God knows us inside out, loves us immensely as
a heavenly Dad, and his love for us reflected in sending Jesus to die on the cross being the ultimate
expression of his love.
Our afternoon walk took us past the Turtle Lake and the Women's Suffrage
Pavilion and up to the Te Awa cycleway. We dropped down to follow part of the Riverside Walkway back
to the carpark, finishing at 2:45pm. It was a lovely day with calm weather, with the red and yellow autumn
leaves adding to the beauty. Total distance for the day 6.2km.
