June - halfway between last Christmas and this coming Christmas, so forget the cold weather, pretend
it’s summer, get the decorations up, and let’s think it’s Christmas already! That is what 26 people decided
to do at the Daystar childcare centre next door to Eden Community Church instead of seeing the All Blacks
thrash Ireland for the second time down the road at Eden Park.
We started at 6:30pm with the usual
mix ‘n’ mingle drinks ‘n’ nibbles, before starting a yummy pot-luck Christmas dinner.

Afterwards we all went into the lounge for the more formal part of the evening. Linda S commenced
this by sharing some Bible verses relating to gifts, being one of the essences of Christmas - Romans
6:23 God’s gift is eternal life; Ephesians 2:8 our faith is a gift from God; James 2:17 every good
gift comes from God. We were invited to share experiences of Christmas - Anthony spoke first, followed
by each member of the Walker family: Anna, Jill, David and Tim. Prizes were given out - the best-dressed
award went to Jan, who had used her BA degree in scrapbooking to make up a really zany Christmas hat.

On went the dancing shoes as our DJ Rob put on such songs as Bird Dance, Rock Around the Clock,
Mamma Mia, You’re the One That I Want, Macarena and the Limbo Rock song to which we limboed under
a broomhandle held about one metre from the floor.

One lady recovering from an operation joined in the locomotion dance seated on an office chair.

Eventually the warning sign that the night would draw to a close and we would swap our
dancing feet for cleaning-up hands came as the strains of Auld Lang Syne came out of Rob’s sound machine.
