The Glenfield coastal walk has always been a popular walk, which the Club had done several times over the years. This time was no exception, with 15 people turning up.

Nine people met at The Bracken at 1:30pm and came across in two cars to meet up with the other six at Kaipatiki Rd outside Glenfield College. We set out on our walk at 2:15pm, entering the Kaipatiki Reserve to follow an undulating bush track running alongside the Kaipatiki Stream. Thanks to some recent storms, we had to climb over fallen trees in at least two places.

The track continued along the Hellyers Creek arm of the Waitemata Harbour to the landing at the end of Manuka Rd, where we arrived for our afternoon tea break.

At 3:30pm we carried on through Manuka Reserve, passing a children’s playground before walking through a wide expanse of green grass. We then entered more bush as we walked through to Lynn Reserve.

We crossed Lynn Rd and walked up the valley bush track of the Leigh Reserve. On previous occasions we came out at the top on Morrigia Place, but this time the track was closed off and we had to come out at Bryers Place. From here we road bashed through to Manuka Rd and down Witheford Drive. We intended to take the bush track from the end of Valecrest Place but found that had been closed as well. So we had no choice but to go to the bottom of Witheford Drive and retrace the first part of our initial bush walk back to the carpark. We came out at 4:50pm, with less than half an hour before sunset.
