A total of twenty people went for a walk taking in Mt Taylor and Churchill Park, having a break at Karaka
Bay before enjoying coffee at the Roberta Ave shops. One carload of 5 left The Bracken at 1:30pm and
met up with the others at the Glendowie Community Centre carpark on Crossfield Rd.
After the intros
and karakia we set out about 2:15 for the five-minute climb up Mt Taylor to enjoy a panoramic view of
the Glendowie area and across the Tamaki River to Bucklands Beach and Waiheke Island in the distance.

From there we went down to Riddell Rd and through the rolling paddocks of Churchill Park then drop
down a zigzag track through bush to Karaka Bay. This was a lovely little beach sheltered from the strong
southwest wind, a great place to take our afternoon tea and devotions break about 3:10pm.

John read out a poem he wrote on the creation story, titled A Very Busy Week. This described from
a first-person perspective Monday when God created the earth, day and night; Tuesday when He made the
sea and the sky; Wednesday when He made oceans, land and plants; Thursday when He made the sun, moon,
planets and stars; Friday when He made fish and birds - at this point John threw some bread onto the
beach where it got instantly gobbled up by seagulls; Saturday when He made land animals, and finally
a special species designed in His image - humans; and Sunday when He took a rest from all this hard work.
Afterwards John commented on how we are made in God’s image, able to work, be creative, and worship Him
unlike other species. The other aspect of being made in His image is having to take a break from our
work once every week - the human body was designed this way. Our weekends are a gift from God, a sabbath
for rest, recreation and worship. People who work weekends need to take their break during the week.
The weekend includes time to come together to worship Him in song, communion, teaching and fellowship
- most churche4s do this on a Sunday, but some do this on a Saturday. There are other ways to worship
God such as admiring the beauty of His creation, using our abilities and talents for ourselves and others,
and even doing a good job in our regular work. John finished with a prayer thanking God for weekends.
Barbara then showed us the brand-new ABTC business cards that Michelle had put together, and these
will be available at The Bracken for trip leaders and club members to pick up and use.

At 3:30pm we returned to Riddell Rd and road bashed a short distance before following a coastal path
to come out at the Roberta Ave shops and a welcome cup of coffee at the Fix café. From there it was
a 20-minute road back to our cars, bringing to a finish at 5pm a lovely walk around this eastern part
of the central Auckland suburbs.
