Fifteen people turned up at Paul and Ruth’s for an evening of games and domestic armchair travel. At
7:30pm we brought out a selection of games, but as we began to play we were called to ride the magic
carpet to the first of our two destinations - Mayor Island. Alasdair Nicoll took us around the island
by powerpoint, following in the footsteps of a five-day working bee that DOC held last November. Photos
of Home Bay, the crater lake, the coastline and the bush brought back memories for John, Joy and Jeff
who had been to the island with the Club in January 1993. We then zoomed down to the South Island and
got on our Windows movie-maker pushbikes to cycle the Otago Central Rail Trail from Clyde to Middlemarch
with Marian and David Kilgour.
Afterwards we carried on with our games - 500, balderdash, kaboodle
and catchphrase before a pot-luck supper was served. The evening finished with a brief time of prayer
for Nelson who was about to set out on his annual tramping OE, this time to Europe.
