Everyone arrived at Mangatawhiri Dam in adequate time to start the walk by 9.30am. Our total contingent
were all keen to get going. The group contained 13 members.
We did Ernie’s Track in a clockwise
direction starting on Waterline Road for 45minutes to the start of Ernies Track then a further 45minutes
go the stream crossing. The Ladies got my message about of crossing at up to calve level. I think they
almost all changed into alternate footwear to cross. We took this opportunity after the crossing for
all to change into their boots again and to have a short break.
Setting off again we soon reached
the bamboo grove and following that commenced the steady climb for about 45 minutes to arrive at the
near top were we could rest for a short time by the big rock. On we went for another 15 minutes to the
top at 479 metres. As it was about 12.15pm a lunch break was gladly taken.
After a good lunch
Shane presented us with an excellent devotíons based on Matthew 7: 13-23 Hard sayings of Jesus and the
authentic Christian. This was about taking the straight and narrow gate and not the easy track leading
to destruction, and to beware of false prophets whom you will recognise by their fruits.
Following
this true message we set off again at about 1.45pm. We arrived at Piggott’s Hut at about 2.45pm. Then
after a foot cool down we commenced the walk down Lillbourne Road for about an hour. We were back at
the cars by 3.15pm.
All those attending enjoyed the workout and the variation of terrain.
