About 26 people gathered at the home of Jocelyn Trembath for a very interesting trip to China following
the footsteps of Phil and Ali Norton who were there just under a year ago. We began by visiting some
of the large temples and other highly ornate buildings before walking along Houchuan Pass, part of the
Great Wall of China dating back to the 14th century. The Bullet Train was interesting to ride, reaching
speeds of over 300km/hour. There was plenty else to see, including markets, statues and a ride on pushbikes
without wearing helmets. Unlike Aussie and NZ, helmets and seatbelts are not compulsory. Some of the
riders held up umbrellas to shelter from the hot sun. A river cruise proved to be really spectacular
with mountains in the form of large rocky outcrops covered in bush. We had our pot-luck supper break
at 8:30pm, and 40 minutes later we were back on our seats looking at several more interesting things
in China before finishing by 9:30pm.
