Twenty people and one dog came along to explore the Centennial Park at Campbells Bay on the North Shore.
Two carloads left The Bracken right on 1:30pm and met up with the others at Greville Reserve. We gathered
for our intros and karakia at 2pm before crossing East Coast Rd and entering the native bush of Centennial
Park, to follow the Mamaku Track.

At one point we took a short side track to the edge of the adjoining golf course, and a little further
on we came to a old small concrete bunker built as part of a defence against an invasion of the Japanese
during World War II, which never happened.

We carried on to come out at Centennial Place at 2:45pm for a short roadbash to Asbury Place - we
could have cut across Baylis Track but the roadbash added to the variety.

The Zigzag Track took us through a stand of manuka, and we then followed Magnolia Walk to come out
to Beach Rd. It was a short walk to the beach, where we arrived at 3:15pm. Some of us were happy just
to sit down and relax; others did a short walk along to the rocks at the south end to see the coastline
and rock pools.

At 3:40pm we set out to return to our starting point along the Avenue of Remembrance and Aberdeen
Track. The Avenue of Remembrance was a pretty tree-lined walk, a great setting for devotions. Christine
read Psalm 148, a psalm of praise to God for His creation. She then read out a poem by Eddie Askew
based on this Bible passage, of how the Almighty God is loving and caring, and certainly praiseworthy.
This poem can be seen at http://www.quietspaces.org.uk/pdfs/9781841014982.pdf Ted concluded the devotions
with a karakia.
