Sixteen people braved a typical showery winter afternoon to do a walk around the Narrow Neck and Bayswater area.

We met at the carpark opposite the Narrow Neck Café beside the beach at 2pm. We had the intros as usual, and Jill gave a very brief reflection on Ecclesiastes 3:1 - there is a time, season and place for everything. Our intention was to go along the rocky foreshore to Takapuna Beach and return through the reserves of Bayswater. We set out and began to climb on to the rocky foreshore, but found it was too slippery and tricky to keep on going.

The leaders decided to do the trip in reverse, so we returned to Narrow Neck and headed along Seabreeze Rd beside Alison Park to join up with the Green Route walk that runs from Devonport to Takapuna.  We went onto the boardwalk joining the Kawerau Reserve with the Plymouth Reserve on Ngataringa Bay, looking out to the Harbour Bridge in the distance.

We crossed over the Bayswater peninsula, passing the O’Neills Point cemetery and crossing a long footbridge to Northboro Reserve.

From there we road bashed through to St Leonards Rd beside Takapuna Grammar School, at the end of which was a path with steps dropping down to St Leonards Beach. Rangitoto Island was an impressive sight with the sea, sand and rocks in the foreground.

The tide had by now gone right out, and it was a much easier walk along the rocky foreshore back to Narrow Neck Beach.  We finished our walk at 4:15pm and relaxed over coffee or $6 cone icecreams at the café before heading home.
