25 people decided to forego the eveningís rugby to come to Jocelynís for an armchair trip to Antarctica and the Falkland Islands. We all gathered in the lounge to see Ted show slides of a trip he had done there recently.

On our way to Antarctica from Ushuaia on the southern tip of Argentina we called in to the Falkland Islands. There were plenty of penguins and albatrosses to see as we took a walk along the coastline. The islandsí capital Stanley was a sight to see with its big old cathedral on the waterfront. We had a look at some reindeer in the snow - they had been brought to the islands for commercial purposes, and soon all the reindeer on the island would be on their way back to Europe.

We went on to the Antarctic Peninsula, our ship crashing through the extensive pack ice on the surface of the sea. There were spectacular icebergs and islands to be seen. There was the opportunity to land ashore and take a wander around the research stations, historical ruins, snow and ice. We returned to the tip of South America and landed at Gold Harbour to have a look at the penguins, elephant seals and albatrosses.

At 9:15pm we enjoyed a yummy potluck supper to finish off the evening.
