A record number of 68 people turned up for the AGM Dinner, held again at the Eden Community Church in
Mt Eden. As usual, we began with an informal mix ‘n’ mingle over drinks and nibbles at 5:30pm. A slideshow
of Club trips and activities over the past 12 months was rolling on the screen as we chatted with one
another.

We sat down for dinner at 6pm, helping ourselves to a yummy smorgasbord of meat and vegie dishes.
A dessert of fruit salad and pavlova followed. The tables were laid with white tablecloths, but we had
no posies this time.

We gathered in the lounge area for our formal programme at 7:30pm. Marian Kilgour began with devotions
on Psalm 121 (New Living Translation) 'I look up to the mountains - does my help come from here? My
help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!' This psalm reminds us of the one who created
the mountains. He is also our helper, and our keeper, and he never forgets about us.
Our guest
speaker was Rob Brown from the Executive of the Federated Mountains Club. His talk was informative and
very relevant to the club. He covered the history of FMC, what we can do at the grass roots level, a
sampling of issues and work FMC is involved with, and organisational challenges for FMC. Rob advised
that as FMC members, we own an organisation with: a strong network of relationships; a long established
and respected name; the support of 17,000 members; credibility (the voice of reason); political independence;
knowledge of the machinery of government; influential publications (the FMC Bulletin); a well-developed
and thoughtful membership; a statutory seat on the NZ Conservation Authority and the NZ Geographic Board.
After a short break we began the AGM at 8:40pm. The new Executive was elected by secret ballot
confidence vote:
Paul Ungemuth (President) David Kilgour (Vice President) June Sinclair
(Treasurer) J Hill (Secretary) Tina Chen Barbara Langridge John McCarthy Ali Norton David
Walker
Cards of thanks were given to those who chose to stand down from the Executive - Roger
Donnell, Warren Prestidge and Katherine Dorafaeff. Katherine closed the AGM with a prayer at 9:55pm.
