This popular annual Club event this year had a really good turnout - 54 people plus a team of four in
the kitchen. The theme for the evening was Kings and Queens, which we as born-again Christians will be
under the King of Kings. Several people showed up in crowns to mark the theme.

We began at 5:30pm with a 20-minute mix-and-mingle punch-and-nibble before we sat down for our dinner.
We took turns table by table to line up for a yummy soup prepared by Michael, then we were up again to
help ourselves to smorgasbord. The first table to be called up for mains was predominantly male, breaking
the tradition of ladies first.

Viv Mill from Federated Mountain Clubs presented a powerpoint about the FMC, and how it has brought
about such things as free access to Mt Cook, new tracks and new national parks. We then moved into the
28th AGM of the Club, which began with urgent amendments to the Club constitution to make confidence
voting by secret ballot mandatory for election of officers and committee, and to recognise the Club as
a charity for tax purposes. For the president’s report John presented a slideshow of about 150 photos
taken in chronological order over the past 12 months set to instrumental jazz music. Joy then presented
the financial report before voting papers were handed out and scrutineers appointed for the election
of officers. All four officers and nine nominations for committee passed the vote, and thus the Club
gained its first-ever female president, Barbara. Nelson became the vice-president, Jill became the
secretary, and Joy continued to hold the purse-strings. Existing committee members David, John, Lynley,
Gary, Stuart Gane and Linda were joined by previous secretary Sonia plus Steve and Roger.

Phillip gave a presentation on the forthcoming Summer Tramp to Arthurs Pass, getting us to sing his
words to the tune of the Christopher Cross song Arthur’s Theme as we did at the summer tramps reunion
six months ago.
Phillip handed over the leading role to Barbara, who replied with two acronyms
in appreciation for his three years’ hard work as president - ABTC: Always welcome, Biblical, True tramping,
Confidence in God and the new exec; PHILLIP: Past president, Historical, helping to celebrate milestones,
Innovative with mew ideas and challenges, Love of the outdoors, Lots of improvements to the club, Inspiring
leader giving challenging reflections, Practical ways of solving problems. Barbara gave votes of thanks
and handed out cards to Sonia for her three years as secretary, Geoff and Rosemary for 9 years looking
after memberships, and Val for her excellent job organising food for weekend tramps.
