The fact that the venue was at Red Beach on the outskirts of Auckland had no effect on the turnout - about 45 people showed up for an interesting armchair journey through Africa. Ted Owens presented slides of his trip to Egypt, including the pyramids and the Nile river. Following this Peter York and Nelson gave speeches and presented a moviemaker slideshow of their trip to Africa including Kilimanjaro. Both were presented with framed certificates congratulating them on their achievement in reaching the summit of Africa’s highest mountain. The formal part finished at 9:20pm, and we enjoyed a lavish pot-luck supper afterwards.
