Saturday dawned and it was an absolutely awesome day. Eleven trampers met at The Bracken at 8am and left
for Bethells Beach, with more people meeting out there - only to find the ladies had stumbled across
a beautiful coffee shop and were annoyingly late. Cherry finally got the group started on the Te Henga
Walkway at 10:15am.
Meanwhile Grant had left his car at the Muriwai end at 9am and set out alone
to meet the rest of the group coming across. He was getting a bit worried when he saw Bethells Beach
in sight and no sign of the trampers - he thought the group was playing an April Fool’s joke on him!
He met up with the others about 11:20am.
The tramp - along the coast and about halfway between
sea level and the coastal hilltops most of the way - was enjoyable, with coastal scenery all the way.
We came out at the Muriwai end about 3pm, and Grant was able to take the drivers back to Bethells to
collect their cars. Goldie’s Bush was presented as an option afterwards, but only Don was keen so that
was called off. After a Presidential Ice Cream Stop at Kumeu we were back at The Bracken about 5:15pm.
