SQUARE DANCE SOCIAL

Wesley     Sat 12 June

Over thirty trampers put their boots and packs aside and put on their dancing shoes for an evening of dos-a-does, allemandes, promenades and confusions at the Wesley Intermediate school hall in Sandringham.

The evening got under way with Paul giving a brief talk on the origins of square dancing - a traditional folk dance from America. We then started with a round dance from our caller from Lynndale Squares. He then got us to dance ourselves into three sets of eight, or squares, for the rest of the evening’s dancing. He showed us each step, walking us through without the music,  before calling the dance using old-fashioned vinyl gramophone records. We found ourselves learning how to dos-a-do, allemande, promenade, sachet, alamo swing and do the grand square - and get ourselves into a mess of confusion at times! (that’s half the fun of square dancing!)

A yummy supper followed, during which people were able to pore over the Club Album, and see the newly revamped Large Display Board, all done out in the bush green of billiard table cloth and displaying A4 size photos of recent tramps.

Overall, a very enjoyable evening.

COST: $5 plus contribution for supper.
