A first for the Club - a progressive dinner, where we visited different homes for the three courses.
31 came along to give their tummies a treat instead of their legs.
We started with soup about
6pm at our first port of call - chez Barbara in Pakuranga. We had three flavours of soup to choose from.

When it was time to move on to the next place, those who had come along on their own were invited
to travel in other people’s cars for extra company and fellowship, and pick their own cars up back at
Barbara’s when it was time to go home.
Our main course was at the Club’s answer to the White House
- the home of president Peter at Cockle Bay. A delicious combination of chicken, casserole, rice, mashed
potato, mushrooms and vegies was served up.

It was good to see Joy along. She looked so well just under two weeks after having had a cancerous
tumour removed from one of her lungs.
Our final destination was chez Athol in Howick. We enjoyed
a smorgasbord of dessert including steam pudding, sponge roll, fruit salad, jelly, hot custard and vanilla
ice cream in the rumpus downstairs.

For each of the three courses our hosts said grace.
It happened to be Don’s birthday, just
five years to go till halfway between the stork and the telegram from the queen, and qualifying to join
Grey Power.

Lin read the previous day’s devotion from Radio Rhema’s The Word For Today, which was about friendships.
In this, based on Proverbs 27:9, a friend is described as somebody who (1) Keeps your secrets and never
divulges them even if tortured or tempted with chocolate! (2) Quietly destroys the photograph that makes
you look like a beached whale (3) Knows when you don't know what you're talking about but smiles supportively
and allows you to reach that conclusion on your own (4) Goes with you on a diet - and off it too (5)
Doesn't say "I told you so" no matter how tempting it might be (6) Is kind and true to you at all times
She then gave out little teddy bears and tiny packets of mini-lollies to various people who would
correctly fit the answer to questions such as Who has ever been to Scotland, who has climbed Mt Kilimanjaro
last year, who has taken on a great burden of caring for someone, etc.

We then went upstairs to the warmth and cosiness of the lounge for tea and coffee to finish the evening
off.
