A brilliant sunny afternoon brought out 23 people to explore an area the Club had never been to before
- Greenhithe.
We set out soon after 2pm from outside the cafe opposite Collins Park on Greenhithe
Rd and headed down Roland Rd to a walkway that connected that road with Wainoni Park. This reserve went
through a children’s play area before crossing a tidal creek to come out on Churchouse Rd.

In contrast Wainoni Park was a large broad area of playing fields adjoining some grazing paddocks.

We returned to Roland Rd and through to Oratau Reserve, a short but delightful bush walk coming out
at the end of Oratau Place.

|
 |
Our afternoon tea break was at Greenhithe Wharf, a short roadbash from Oratau Place. We could look
up Lucas Creek towards Albany and across the water to the hills of Paremoremo. You would not think that
the well-known home for such notorious criminals as William Bell and Malcolm Rewa was just a kilometre
or two beyond the bushclad coastline.

Greenhithe Wharf is also the birthplace for many a flash boat.

 |
A roadbash of about one kilometre brought us to Rahui Beach, a little cove looking out across to
Herald Island.
|
|
 |
A stepped bush track brought us up to Marae Rd, just a few minutes from Marae Reserve and another
break. We could look out across to Herald Island and to Hobsonville.

A short walk along Marae Rd and Shiloh Place, and through the broad grass area of Collins park brought
us back to our starting point and well-deserved icecreams about 4:30pm
