Duder Regional Park between Maraetai and Clevedon has always been a popular place for Club trips, and
this time was no exception as ten people donned their winter woollies and took advantage of a cold crisp
cloudless afternoon to explore this little gem.
We left The Bracken at 1:30pm and met some of
the group at the access road to Duder Regional Park - linemen were working on the road and we had to
park our cars two minutes walk from the carpark.

After some discussion about the fact that we might not have time to reach the end of the Umupuia
Peninsula due to the sunset at 5:13pm, we decided on a walk up the main farm track to the summit trig,
with the option of walking down to Duders Beach afterwards. The track went along the bottom of the hills
before a gentle climb to the main ridge.

We had a short stop at the main ridge where we had a great view out to Waiheke and Ponui Islands.

From there we climbed up to the summit of the regional park. A chilly wind prevented us from spending
much time enjoying the panoramic views all around.

Two or three of us went back to the carpark the direct route while the rest of us dropped down to
the coast for our afternoon tea stop.

A short straightforward walk brought us to Duders Beach, coming out soon after 4pm, where we waited
for June, who had gone straight back to the carpark, to come and collect the other drivers. The rest
of us walked back along the road while waiting for the other cars to come.

A lovely afternoon out finished with some cafeterology in Whitford on the way home.
