There were 28 people and the sun shined on us. Starting from St.Heliers Bay 2pm we wound our way through
some attractive streets to a beautiful glade following a stream along the bottom end of Churchill Park.
After pausing to look at the spring calves we turned west to climb the vantage point of Mount Taylor.
This is an old volcano and a terraced Maori Pa site. Views across the Tamaki Estuary, surrounding suburbs
and the islands of the gulf.
Westward we skirted some playing fields then crossed the "Madeleine
Estate" - a two street ghetto which was demolished because of crime in the area, and now has the first
construction of a brand new subdivision. Northward to Long Drive then dropping into the Dingle Dell (native
bush with many tracks) which is in a quiet secluded valley surrounded by some grand houses in parklike
surroundings. This came out at the back of St. Heliers Bay where the walk was completed at appox.4.50pm.
