A good crowd of 51 people turned up for the annual midwinter dinner and AGM - always a well-supported event with the guset speaker as drawcard. This time we had John Cowan from Parenting With Confidence, whose entertaining style was much enjoyed by all present.

As usual, people started arriving from 6pm for a time of mix-and-mingle over orange juice, crackers, cheese and dips. At about 6:45pm we sat down to a yumptious buffet dinner of ham, fish, casserole, cauli in white sauce, and vegies, followed by dessert of chocolate cake, meringue and icecream.

8pm saw John Cowan get under way with an amusing power-point presentation about the attributes of men and women, boys and girls. He kept us amused with laughter all the way through.

The AGM got under way about 9pm. The Club president Peter gave a short report, additional to the report he had handed out. One point he made was having devotions on the track during Club tramps - participants like to spend a few moments meditating on an aspect of God then have that in the back of their minds while enjoying the great outdoors He has made for us.

The four Officers and seven Committee members were all elected unopposed and with an overwhelming secret-ballot confidence vote.

Paul U gave a publicity talk about the Bottom of the North Christmas tramp to the Wellington/Wairarapa/Tararua area he would be leading, before Phillip D spoke about the Silver Jubilee Tasmania tramp he would be in charge of over the same time.

Phillip then turned our thoughts to the Silver Jubilee celebrations next year, to include not only the Tasmania trip, but also the Easter trip to Whanganui National Park, the flagship event at Rotorua over Queens Birthday weekend including a formal dinner and thanksgiving church service, a quiz nite in August, the Bush Ball at Pinnacles Hut in November which Lin Sutton will be organising, and a country fair in December to wind up the jubilee year.

Phillip then turned our thoughts to God, who had seen us through the first 24 years of the Club and will be guiding us for the years to come (Psalm 139:5). We need to be thankful for our past (1 Samuel 7:12) and have faith for our future (Isaiah 41:10)

To conclude the AGM we rose to sing three hymns - Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah, He Has Brought Us This Far By His Grace, and a modified version of two verses of How Great Thou Art to reflect the theme of these devotions - then we shook hands with one another saying Vaya Con Dios (Well with God)
